Hello from the Rector
Dear friends,
Thank you so much to all who made our music festival last weekend such a success! It was wonderful to be seen in the community to be supporting our talented young people. We also raised £900 for church funds so well done everyone!
You can see a summary of photos and some video clips on our website here.
Next big event is the Big Barlborough Festival over the weekend of 11th and 12th July. Please make a dedication for the flowers to help us cover costs – forms are available at church.
This Sunday we are back to our normal pattern of services, this means services are: 8.30am Morning Prayer and 5pm Choral Evensong at Barlborough and 10am Sung Eucharist at Clowne.
See below for a summary of what was discussed at the recent Barlborough PCC meeting.
See you soon.
Every blessing,
Canon Bryony
Barlborough PCC summary
It was agreed at our recent PCC meeting that we would publish a summary of issues discussed after each meeting. If you would like more information, please ask one of our church wardens, Ian Morton or John Wilkins.
Kitchen – The kitchen cracks have been dealt with by John Barlow, he is waiting for them to fully dry and will then come back and paint the cracks.
Organ Repairs – The organ faculty is still going through the system, we are awaiting confirmation that we can proceed with part 2 of the repairs.
New Burial of ashes plot – Still waiting for the archaeological survey to take place. Once we have this, we can then proceed with the build.
Google workspace – Proposed to utilise the platform more, and make it automated, some items are also visible on our website without double input.
Notice board – it was agreed to get a quote for a new board to go behind the railings to the right of our entrance.
Big Barlborough festival 2026 – The national year of reading, all plans are coming together for a great weekend.
We will publish a list of jobs that people can volunteer for in the church so if people wanted to volunteer, they can put their names down and get more information.
Church Insurance – We’re looking into ways in which we could potentially reduce the church insurance.
Finance
CCLA account – CCLA savings account is now set up, the interest rate is 3.17%
Church Institute – Rent has now been increased.
Bank Charges – When we pay physical money into the bank, we have to pay a service charge, £46.95 for the last 6 months of this year. Donations via the Parish giving scheme don’t incur a charge and are better for the church than cheques or cash. We also pay a service charge for card donations

Please consider joining the Parish Giving Scheme to give regularly if you do not already do so.
It costs money to run our churches, to pay for our clergy and keep the lights on, most of our income comes from your generosity!
Joining the Parish Giving Scheme
A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid. Once you set it up you can relax and not worry about bringing cash to church.
How to give
Set up a regular gift to the parish by calling the dedicated telephone line: 0333 002 1271. Tell them the parish code:
- St John the Baptist, Clowne: 120612060
- St James the Greater, Barlborough: 120612054
You can also set everything up online yourself by visiting: https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/
