Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

Thank you so much to all who supported and helped create our Big Barlborough Festival weekend and our contribution – the flower festival. I’m sure offering the opportunity to ring the bells attracted some new visitors we have not seen before – and maybe even resulted in some new recruits! We also raised around £600 for church funds which is a fantastic result. You can see some pictures of the event on our website here

It was also good to have year 6 children from Barlborough Primary School in church this week for their transition prayer service. The event helped the children to reflect on their time at primary school and prepare for their move to secondary school. Do pray for them.

There have been a number of wildfires – some deliberately started – around our area recently and one near our organist Suzy’s farm (fortunately it was put out). Please pray for our farming community at this difficult time as they bring in the harvest in this heat.

This Sunday we have morning prayer at 8.30am at Barlborough and our Sung Eucharist at 10am at Clowne. We are also singing at Cliff House Care Home in the afternoon at 3pm.

See you soon.

Every blessing,

Canon Bryony

Please consider joining the Parish Giving Scheme to give regularly if you do not already do so.

It costs money to run our churches, to pay for our clergy and keep the lights on, most of our income comes from your generosity!

Joining the Parish Giving Scheme
A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid. Once you set it up you can relax and not worry about bringing cash to church.

How to give
Set up a regular gift to the parish by calling the dedicated telephone line: 0333 002 1271. Tell them the parish code:

  • St John the Baptist, Clowne: 120612060
  • St James the Greater, Barlborough: 120612054

You can also set everything up online yourself by visiting: https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
