Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

Tomorrow our very own Octavia is getting married to Richard at St James’- we are so excited to celebrate with them!

This Sunday is Good Shepherd Sunday and we have morning prayer at Clowne at 8.30am, 10am Sung Eucharist at Barlborough and at 5pm we have our lovely relaxed service, Refresh, at Clowne – why not give it a try if you’ve not been before?

Also…

We are delighted to be hosting a production of ‘I think he died of a Tuesday’ at Clowne Parish Church on Saturday 2nd May at 7pm.

Tickets available to buy at church £12 or £10 concessions – includes a drink on arrival (wine or juice). If you’re not at church do contact me on 07960 735352 to book your tickets and you can pay on the night.

“A tale of a father, a son, a death…and an orange thong!”

Following the death of Michael, his son (Mark) and grandson (Sam) navigate life without him. As events spiral out of control, the effect on Mark ( and his mental health) leads to niggles from the past resurfacing leaving Mark and Sam’s relationship in tatters.

I Think He Died Of A Tuesday is a poignant play about bereavement and the relationship between fathers and sons (with parallels for mothers and daughters). Although the subject matter involves death, the play is packed full of humour from the start.

The play contains some strong language.

There will be a 15 minute interval.

Hope you can come and do bring a friend! If anyone has a raffle prize to donate, please let me know as we will be doing a small raffle on the night.

Every blessing,

Canon Bryony

Please consider joining the Parish Giving Scheme to give regularly if you do not already do so.

It costs money to run our churches, to pay for our clergy and keep the lights on, most of our income comes from your generosity!

Joining the Parish Giving Scheme
A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid. Once you set it up you can relax and not worry about bringing cash to church.

How to give
Set up a regular gift to the parish by calling the dedicated telephone line: 0333 002 1271. Tell them the parish code:

  • St John the Baptist, Clowne: 120612060
  • St James the Greater, Barlborough: 120612054

You can also set everything up online yourself by visiting: https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
