Remembering our loved ones

Remembering our loved ones

Archbishop Rowan Williams once said that the church is the place where we can put emotions that won’t go anywhere else. You are warmly invited to some services that I hope will help you as you continue to mourn the loss of your loved ones.

On All Souls’ Day Thursday 2nd November at 7pm there will be a simple memorial service at St John the Baptist, Clowne. Names of loved ones will be read and there will be an opportunity to light a candle.

We are also for All Souls’ having a Eucharist at St James, Barlborough at which the choir will be singing Fauré’s Requiem. Names of loved ones will be read out during the service and there will be an opportunity to light a candle in their memory. This service will take place on Sunday 5th November at 5pm at St James Church.

At both services there will be an opportunity to write your loved ones names down as you arrive at church to ensure they are read during the service.

Christmas is often a tough time when we have lost loved ones. To help us process this loss, we are holding our usual Light of Life Christmas services with Christmas carols in church this year:

Sunday 3rd December 5pm St James, Barlborough

Tuesday 12th December 7pm St John the Baptist, Clowne

As part of the Light of Life service we invite you to dedicate a light on our Christmas tree to those special people in your thoughts.

This is a special way to remember and give thanks. For each dedication you make we will give or send to you a special “Light of Life” card for you to keep or send to a friend.
