Vacancy: Are you our new organist?

The Rector of St James’, Barlborough, invites applications for the post of Organist (and if appropriate Choral Director) to begin in September 2021.

St James Church is a village church with a strong musical tradition of long-standing, with a robed SATB choir of high standard  The choir has an extensive repertoire, and large library, and music forms a large part of services.  The choir from time to time sings at other churches or cathedrals.  The choir is affiliated to the RSCM and runs the RSCM Voice for Life scheme.  Two choristers act as Choral Director and Assistant Choral Director.

Choir practices are on a Friday evening (6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. / 8 p.m.).  Regular services are fortnightly morning Eucharist (10 a.m.) and monthly Choral Evensong (5 p.m.). together with all of the special services throughout the year.

The church has an organ scholarship and therefore has a number of assistant organists who play occasionally at services.

RSCM rates apply.

There are also a variable number of weddings and funerals (separately remunerated).
