Barlborough celebrates VE Day at home

To commemorate V.E. Day, Friday 8th May, 2020, the Parish Council will hang bunting from the railings outside St.James’ Church, Barlborough. The bunting has been decorated by local groups including children and young people. The Chair to the Parish Council, Jane Haywood, will also play 1940s music on Clowne Road Barlborough at approximately 3.00p.m., following the broadcast of Sir Winston Churchill’s Victory Speech. Please feel free join in with bunting and music on your property. This would help us create…

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank (thereby keeping us safe) and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid. It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your…

What kind of funeral do you want? Take the opportunity now to think it through and share with family

We all really struggle to talk about death and dying. It truly is the last taboo in our society. But every day at the moment on the news we hear the sad news of further (mostly untimely) deaths. As a priest, I spend a lot of time having to confront death and dying as I visit sick parishioners and regularly take funerals. One of the most stressful things for a family organising a funeral is if the person who has…

A simple daily prayer service to say at home during Eastertide

Rāhui is a spiritual ritual of temporary reserving, a prohibition placed on an area of land to allow it the time to recover. This “closed season” is often imposed when there is a threat of losing the sacred natural resources so that there can be restoration and healing. Not only does the whole world deeply…
