Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

A few notices to share with you this week:

Welcoming Fr Iain Faulkner
Fr Iain is an experienced priest who currently works full time as a nurse in the NHS. He is looking to become an incumbent full-time priest and so is going to spend this term (up to Christmas) with us on placement to learn about being an incumbent from us. He brings a wealth of experience and I’m looking forward to having him take part in our worship and learn more about our benefice. Please give him a warm welcome!

Finding Faith Course
Our ‘Finding Faith’ course starts this week. This is a 6 week course for anyone wanting a refresher (or, indeed, an introduction) to the basics of the Christian faith. There will be a confirmation service on 8th November at Derby Cathedral at which anyone interested can be confirmed. You are free to attend as many sessions as you like, you can pick and mix if there is a particular topic you’d like to attend, although we recommend that those considering confirmation attend the whole course. These are the dates, all sessions will be at St John the Baptist, Clowne at 7.30pm:

Tue 16 Sept – Identity
Tue 30 Sept – The Bible
Tue 14 Oct – Holy Communion
Tue 28 Oct – Sin & Forgiveness
Tue 11 Nov – Sharing our faith
Tue 25 Nov – Spirituality

New Honorary and Lay Canons appointed to Derby Cathedral
On Sunday 21st September at 5.15pm at Choral Evensong, I will be collated as an Honorary Canon of Derby Cathedral. You are most welcome to come along to the service at the cathedral or watch it on Youtube!

Heritage Open Day St James Barlborough 10am-4pm Saturday 13th September
Hope to see you on Saturday at our open day. There will be exhibitions from Barlborough Heritage Centre and Clowne History Society plus a raffle and refreshments. There is also a treasure hunt for children. All welcome.

Every blessing,

Rev Bryony

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
