Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

Alleluia, Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed, alleluia!
The Easter season continues for us in church until Pentecost and this Sunday we will be hearing my favourite resurrection story of the miraculous catch of fish. We have morning prayer at 8.30am at Barlborough and our Eucharist at 10am at Clowne – please note that there is no choral evensong this week.

On Thursday 8th May it is the 80th Anniversary of VE Day and we are having a special service at 10.15am at St James Barlborough in place of our usual eucharist. The children from Barlborough Primary school will be attending but everyone else is welcome to come along as well. After the short service in church we will gather for an act of remembrance in the Memorial Garden at 11am. I’m delighted that we will be sharing with our local children all about the importance of this date in our history. The Parish Council are putting on a Tea Dance after the service from 11.15am-1.15pm at the Church Institute – it’s free.

Please note our upcoming annual meetings taking place after the 10am eucharist. Please stay behind to help us elect our church wardens and PCC members and hear a report of the last year’s activities. Barlborough 11th May 11.15am, Clowne 18th May 11.15am.

We are putting on a new course for small group reading The Book of Forgiving by Desmond and Mpho Tutu. Sessions will be as follows at 7.30pm at Clowne:

Tuesday  13th May – Why forgive?
Tuesday 27th May – What forgiveness is not
Tuesday  10th June – Understanding the fourfold path
Tuesday  24th June – Telling the story, naming the hurt
Tuesday 8th July – Granting Forgiveness, renewing or releasing the relationship
Tuesday 22nd July –  Needing forgiveness, forgiving yourself

Please let me know if you would like to order the book. All are welcome to attend.

Every blessing,

Rev Bryony

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank (thereby keeping us safe) and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
