Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

This Sunday marks the official end of the Christmas/Epiphany season as we celebrate Candlemas – the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. I hope you can join us for our Eucharist at Clowne and Choral Evensong at Barlborough as we celebrate this beautiful feast.

I’m sad to report that our lovely friend Joyce Betts died this week. She died peacefully with her family around her at the age of 99 and I was able to give her the last rites. Joyce will be very much missed by all who knew her. Her funeral will be at Clowne St John the Baptist on Wednesday 26th February at 11am.

Rev Mike’s last services with us will be Sunday 9th February at 10am at St James, Barlborough and very last service at 10am on Sunday 16th February at Clowne after which we will enjoy some cake and refreshments to celebrate all that Mike has brought to our parishes.

Rev Mike’s induction at his new parishes in Leek will be on Shrove Tuesday, 4th March. Please sign up at church if you would like to attend and we will identify whether we can give each other lifts or need to hire a coach. If you would like to make a donation to a gift for Mike, please put it in an envelope and mark it ‘gift for Mike’ and bring it to church.

See you soon,

Rev Bryony

Here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank (thereby keeping us safe) and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!
